Official: Tony Ferguson will fight with Justin Gati at UFC 249 for the interim title

The first issue of the UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson will share the octagon with Justin Gati in the main event of UFC 249, which is scheduled for 18 April. Both fighters have already signed the contract. Thus it is necessary to clarify what is at stake in this fight will be the WBC interim champion 155-pounds.

The news was announced personally by the President of UFC Dana white via Twitter:

“Duel in force and one hundred percent will be held live on ESPN somewhere on EARTH!!! Tony Ferguson against Justin Gati – live on ESPN+ 18 April for the belt interim champion of the light weight!”

Recall that the original Ferguson had to fight against the current champion lightweight Habib Nurmagomedov. However, due to restrictions imposed by the government of Russia in connection with the fight against the pandemic coronavirus, Dagestan has announced that it will not be able to leave the country, and therefore decided to withdraw from the fight.

Justin Gati currently holds the fourth place ranking among the soldiers of the light division. “Highlight” is a series of three early victories, all of which have been won in the first round. In his last fight last fall Gati finished UFC veteran Donald “Cowboy” Serrone.
